Cost of Living
Housing prices are rising in South Arlington. This thriving community has a much higher cost of living than the national average. This is due to the rising housing prices and its proximity to popular business establishments like the Pentagon and the new headquarters of Amazon.
Neighborhoods
Columbia Pike and Shirlington are two of South Arlington's diverse neighborhoods. Many of the homes in South Arlington, especially Cape Cods and bungalows, are smaller than those in the North.
South Arlington is also home to several condos and townhome communities. Rental properties are also available. Arlington Ridge, Douglas Park, and Nauck are some of the other neighborhoods in the area.
Schools & Universities
Arlington has three traditional schools. One of them is the Wakefield High School, and the other two are in the north. A majority of South Arlington goes to Wakefield High School, except some of Glencarlyn and Forest Glen, which attend Wash Liberty High School.
Other schools in the area include Barcroft Elementary. This public school is one of the only year-round schools in the county.
Things To Do
Restaurants and grocery stores in South Arlington are not as concentrated as they are along Wilson Blvd in North Arlington. You can still go to Safeway, Giant, Trader Joe's, Harris Teeter, and Costco.
Arlington is also home to the W&OD Trailhead. The Washington and Old Dominion Trail, or W&OD, stretches 45 miles from Shirlington in Arlington all the way to Purcellville, VA. There are also lots of activities residents can participate in through Parks and Recreation. It offers camps and classes, as well as several other programs.
