Originally named Alexandria, Arlington was changed in 1920 to avoid confusion. As the population grew, subdivisions were built. Most of them had the same street names, and this resulted in finding an address complicated.
To end the confusion, a street naming committee was established. The county was divided into two areas, with North Arlington covering the north area of US Route 50.
