Overview of Mclean, VA

Geography
McLean comprises 25 square miles. The city is approximately 8 miles Northwest of Washington DC. The Beltway, The George Washington Parkway, and Georgetown Pike are some of the major arteries commuter routes that transverse McLean.

Transportation
The long-awaited Silver line of the Metro has several stops that serve the greater McLean area. There is also Metrobus service available on most major routes. While DC-bound commuters can ride the Metro system, errands made within town will require a car. However, plans are in the works to transform McLean into a walk and bike-friendly, sustainable urban community within 40 years.

Property Types
McLean is comprised of several different types of neighborhoods and communities, from sprawling mansion-style homes to new build single-family starter homes and luxury townhomes. There are also several clusters of high-rise condos stacked with amenities closer to Tysons Corner.

Things to Do
McLean is largely a residential neighborhood, with the main draw from visitors to Tyson’s Corner and Tyson’s Galleria where one can find many upscale boutiques. Residents also enjoy the challenging trail along the Potomac River at Scott’s Run Nature Preserve. The river views along the trail will take your breath away. And for the truly ambitious set, continue the strenuous hike upstream to Great Falls Park.

Interesting Fact
McLean is steeped in a rich early-American history, as evident by many of the historic buildings within the town’s boundaries. One such building is Hickory Hill, built shortly after the Civil War. Hickory Hill went on to house many prominent individuals, including United States Senator (and President-to-be) John F. Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline.
